April 10
Kids' Day Out!
Hosted by the Museum of Arts & Sciences, Mercer's Alpha Tau Omega & Alpha Delta Pi and Centenary Church
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


A full day of family fun with hands-on art and crafts projects with local artists, live animal shows, amazing science demonstrations by Dr. Craig Anderson (a.k.a. "Dr. A"), star shows in the portable planetarium, games and more. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from local vendors on-site.

April 17
PIC Green Field Day
Hosted by Historic Macon
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Preservation is Conservation! Historic Macon Foundation hosts a green field day where vendors from across the region will have green products and services on display that can help make any home or lifestyle more energy efficient (and cheaper). Displays and demonstrations include solar power, ultra-efficient appliances, geo-thermal heat, wind power, recycled building materials, composting, LEED-certified architecture, window efficiency, insulation, bicycling and ultra-efficient automobiles.

Earth Day Celebration
Sponsored by City of Macon Parks & Recreation Dept.
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.


Celebrate "giving back to Mother Earth" with family-oriented fun that includes games, speakers, music, dancing, giveaways, vendors and a Big Screen Night showing of the film "Into the Wild" by the College Hill Alliance at 8 p.m.

Weekend in the Park
Hosted by the Tubman African American Museum

Now in its 14th year, enjoy the celebration, the experience, and the presentations of music, dance, food, film, art, and spoken word, as we explore the dynamic and diverse cultures created from the African Diaspora. This weekend community event celebrates African influences from around the world, is open to all and is formed around the principles of Love, Peace, Unity and Hope.

Macon Cycling Classic & Moonlight Miles 5K
Hosted by Walthall Oil Cycling & Mercer Cycling / Bragg Jam Festival Inc.
All Day: 9 a.m., Macon Cycling Classic Starts; 8:30 p.m. Moonlight Miles Starts

A full day of fitness in and around Tattnall Park with two community sporting events sharing the road and excitement. Expect vendors, live entertainment and a free movie screening after the last one crosses the finish line. It's two races that set the pace for a healthy aspirations. Soapbox Derby Call for Entries

The College Hill Corridor is giving the Soapbox Derby another run. The event will take place on Sunday, April 11, on the Magnolia Street hill, following Second Sunday Brunch in Washington Park, and ending with a block party down Magnolia Street.

Now is the time to register or sponsor a team to race in the derby. Everyone who registers will receive a free t-shirt to commemorate the event. The application and race regulations are found on the left-hand side of this site. You can also find copies at the Mercer Village merchants. April 5.


Two winners will be chosen for the Soapbox Derby, one for People’s Choice and one for Fastest Car. The winner of Fastest Car will receive a $100 gift card from Zingo Transportation -- a designated-driving service -- along with 20 free custom-print t-shirts from Magnolia Press and a Soapbox Derby trophy.
